With an objective to give a new impetus to biomedical research, Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati has set up a new biomedical research laboratory, i.e., DBT-AIST International Laboratory for Advance Biomedicine or DAILAB. The new research lab will play a significant role in revolutionising the biomedical research in North East (NE) region.
IIT Guwahati took Japanese assistance in setting up the biomedical research lab. The lab will play a crucial role in developing therapeutic drugs and diagnostic devices for rare diseases. On the other hand, these devices are high safe and inexpensive. The biomedical research will also carry out basic level to applied research on cancer and other diseases prevalent in North East (NE) region.

Mr. Ajay Kumar, Coordinator of DAILAB revealed that the purpose of setting up an international laboratory for advanced biomedicine at IIT Guwahati is to improve the standards of biomedical research in the North East region. The institution is also aiming for global outreach by taking up the standards to international level.
The biomedical research lab will provide training to students and scientists at par with international standards. The aim of the training programme is to produce highly competent experts in the area of biomedical research in North East (NE) region.

National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (Japan) and Department of Biotechnology (Government of India) supported Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati in setting up an international lab for biomedical research.
