Due to the emergence of data science and technologies such as artificial intelligence, IIT Guwahati has launched four new programs for the academic session of 2019-2020. The new courses launched by the institute include M.Tech in Data Science and three international courses with Gifu University, Japan. IIT Guwahati initiated the new courses given the rising interest and demand of the students in the respective fields.
There is a need for data-centric learning opportunities as data science has gained a lot of significance in both industry and academics. The new M.Tech programme will open up new opportunities in engineering and science research.
Data scientist positions are also being available wherein the industry seeks trained resources. According to a media report, there has been a talent shortage for analytics and data science professionals in India, with about 97,000 job openings.
The demand-supply gap in this field means good opportunity not only for those who are starting out their career but also for the mid-level professionals who are looking for a career change and want to move to this field.
