The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati is launching new post-graduate and doctoral programmes in Health Sciences and Technology this academic year. The institute will admit the first batch of 20 MTech students studying biomedical science and engineering to the institution through GATE 2022.
Students studying at the school will gain an extensive understanding of topics relating to Health Science and Technology, with courses from other scientific and engineering disciplines such as Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics & Statistics, Biosciences, Electronics & Electrical Engineering, and Design.

In collaboration with the Mehta Family Foundation, Houston, Texas, USA, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has established the 'Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology'. This new school will begin its academic activities this year.
Government of India Principal Scientific Adviser Ajay Kumar Sood said, "The school will bring in the next generation of academic leaders in close proximity to world-class educationists, scientists, physicians, technologists, and entrepreneurs, which may catalyze high-impact research, reduce expensive biomedical imports, and engender an academic curriculum that substantiates the vision of a sustainable society."

In alignment with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, IIT Guwahati has launched a multidisciplinary programme in health sciences and technology. Developing an integrated academic curriculum, which encourages both pedagogic and practical training, is one of the NEP's major objectives.
