The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) has implemented the Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu and Kashmir students that was started by the Prime Minister. The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and IIT Guwahati implemented this scheme together for the student population of J&K. IIT Guwahati is taking several new steps which have helped in establishing an exquisite place for the institute among all the Indian Institutes of India (IITs) . An MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) has been signed to this effect in order to pave the way for offering exposure to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to the advanced academic culture provided at the higher learning institutes of the nation.
IIT Guwahati has recently signed the MoU with AICTE for extending internships to the students that hail from Jammu and Kashmir. The Director of IIT Guwahati, T G Sitharam and the Chairman of AICTE, Professor Anil D Sahasrabudhe, held the exchanged of agreements at a meeting of the IIT council. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, who is the Union Minister for HRD (Human Resource Development) and Sanjay Dhotre, the Minister of State for HRD, were also present at the meeting.

According to the MoU, 100 meritorious students will be enrolled from Jammu and Kashmir in batches of 25 for an internship at IIT Guwahati. This internship programme will commence on 1st May 2019 and will end on 30th May 2019. Sitharam underlined the benefits of the MoU and said that IIT Guwahati has always strived to empower the world beyond its own campus and students. This agreement will channelise the energy of all talented students of Jammu and Kashmir by providing them with proper exposure. Several co-curricular activities will also be organised for these students apart from knowledge sharing and exchange.
This MoU and exchange programme includes education, academic, and research collaboration where IIT Guwahati will design a detailed programme from its distinguished faculty members and guest faculty from outside the institute.

IIT Guwahati has retained the seventh position in the ‘India Rankings 2019’ among the best engineering institutions of the country as declared by the NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework).
