The Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H) has signed a pact with the Japan-based Terra Drone Corporation, and Terra Drone India for speeding up the development of drones in the country. The announcement of the tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was made on 18th April 2019, Thursday.
These three units will work in collaboration to create India’s first-of-its-kind Centre of Excellence for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). The centre will be established on the campus of IIT Hyderabad.
The Director of IIT Hyderabad, Dr. U B Desai, talked about the MoU and said that they are working to create a unique educational ecosystem that will combine interactive learning with other important aspects like strong industry collaboration, cutting-edge research, and entrepreneurship. He also expressed his excitement on developing solutions that are drone-based for several domains like agriculture, 5G communication, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and transportation.

Terra Drone Corporation has established itself in more than twenty countries across six continents. It is one of the largest providers of industrial drone solutions in the world. It is at the leading position of several innovations in the industry of aviation, which includes promoting the application of Artificial Intelligence technologies in drones and also providing Japan’s ongoing ‘Flying Car’ project with advisory services.
The Chief Executive Officer of Terra Drone Corporation, Toru Tokushige, stated that in India, the potential of the commercial drone market is huge as it is the fastest growing major economy in the world. Terra Drone India is a part of the Terra Drone Group and it provides the drone ecosystem of India with a complete sales-service-support module.
Prateek Srivastava, the Chief Executive Officer of Terra Drone India, acknowledged that there is rapid evolution in the UAV ecosystem of India and drones are definitely going to become a vital part of the future working environments in various industries.
