Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) will introduce two new courses from the academic session 2017-18. The main purpose of launching these courses is to meet the growing demand of student community and industry. IIT Hyderabad will introduce the following courses from this academic session: -
- B.Tech Engineering Mathematics
- B.Tech Minor in Design
IIT Hyderabad has decided to launch the courses following the interest from employers as well as students who are looking for these skills. U.B. Desai, Director of IIT Hyderabad revealed that multi-disciplinary areas had been constantly emerging not only in the academic world but also within the industry. Therefore, these areas require new skills and approach. These two B.Tech courses will play a significant role in fulfilling such emergent requirements, he added.

Prof. D. Sukumar, HOD of Mathematics indicated that B.Tech Engineering Mathematics would help the students to take up higher studies in Mathematics as well as Ph.D. in various renowned universities across the globe. Students can also take up R&D in various international and national laboratories. He also mentioned that various jobs offered by industry and multinational companies require math analytical skills. The intake of B.Tech Engineering Mathematics is 10.
Mr. Nellakantan, Assistant Professor, Department of Design of IIT Hyderabad revealed that B.Tech Minor in Design course would not only focus on developing employability skills of the students but also enabling them to be creative thinkers. The course will make the students start initiatives of their own. The intake of students for B.Tech Minor in Design course will be 15 to 20 students.

The minor courses that would be offered under B.Tech Minor in Design are: -
- Urban space design
- Principles and animation and moving images
- Visual communication and digital imagining
- Digital heritage
- Word and image immersion
- Environmental installations and performances
