IIT Hyderabad’s Teaching Learning Centre has launched a programme to train teachers and faculty members from various institutions and colleges. The training programme that is currently underway at IIT Hyderabad is on ‘Teaching Strategies for 21 st Century Professionals’. The training programme has been launched as a part of an MHRD project.
In the last couple of years, IIT Hyderabad has imparted training to over 1,500 teachers across different engineering disciplines. The training programme is a compillation of subject-specific training and general induction programmes.

Giving details about the training programme, Assistant Professor at Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering (IIT Hyderabad) explained that the learners in the 21 st century are completely different and the expectations by their employers from them are also different and more. In the current context, teaching will have less impact if teaching strategies and curriculum remain same. At present, it is in the hands of educators to cope up with expectations and the traits of the students, she added.
The Teaching Learning Centre at IIT Hyderabad was established in the year 2015 under Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Training . The initiative was launched to promote teaching on a continuous basis, framing discipline-learning materials (along with e-content), pedagogy and curricula for use by teachers in colleges and Post Graduate (PG) departments.

The training imparted by IIT Hyderabad on teaching strategies is unique, and more emphasis is given to learner-centered teaching rather than developing relevant and content-based courses on a continuous basis. Learning participation in teaching is one of the major highlights of the training programme.
At present, IIT Hyderabad faculty are carrying out induction training of new faculty that includes familiarisation of new learning and teaching methods, ICT enabled teaching-learning , assessment & evaluation techniques, instructional methodologies, administration and university rules & regulations.
A faculty member who completes the required hours of training and attends all the workshops will be awarded a certificate on successful cmpletion. The training programme is mandatory for the teachers in all the colleges as per MHRD rules. Therefore, IIT Hyderabad has informed all the colleges regarding the mandatory training programme.
