IIT JAM Admission 2023: Difference between Accept and Freeze vs Accept and Upgrade

The difference between the ‘accept and freeze’ and ‘accept and upgrade’ procedures for IIT JAM admission 2023 has been stated here. Applicants can find the difference between the two processes here.

IIT JAM Admission 2023 : The Joint Admission Test 2023 was held on April 3 and the admission procedure for the same was conducted from April 11 to April 25 by the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. Depending on the scores obtained by the registered candidates in the JAM 2023 exam, the first list for admission will be announced today, June 1 .  After the list is released, the chosen candidates will be allowed admission to their preferred colleges. For admission, they would be required to choose between three options:

  • Accept and Freeze

  • Accept with Upgrade
  • Reject and Quit

Difference between 'Accept and Freeze' vs 'Accept and Upgrade' in IIT JAM Admission 2023

Candidates will be required to visit the official website @joaps.iitg.ac.in on a specific date and choose either of the three options mentioned above. For candidates selecting ‘Reject and Quit’ means that they reject the seat that has been offered to them and would prefer to discontinue the application process. For the ‘Accept and Freeze’ and ‘Accept with Upgrade’ options, candidates can check out the difference here.

  • Accept and Freeze : If a candidate opts for the ‘Accept and Freeze’ option, then that means that they have accepted the seat and do not wish to look out for better preferences.

  • Accept and Upgrade : If a candidate opts for the ‘Accept with Upgrade’ option, then that means that they have accepted the seat but wish to look for better preferences in the following rounds.

For both options, candidates need to pay a seat booking fee by visiting the official portal. The seat booking fee for general/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates is Rs. 10,000, whereas, for SC/ST/PwD candidates, the fee is Rs. 5000.
