IIT Kanpur has launched a special course on Drone Technology better known as Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) for its students. The classes for the course is going to start soon and it will be under the guidance of a team that had developed the first indigenous Long Endurance UAV in India The UAV is an acronym for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, which is an aircraft with no pilot on board. UAVs can be remote controlled aircraft or can fly autonomously based on pre-programmed flight plans or more complex dynamic automation systems. UAVs are currently used for a number of missions, including investigation and attack roles. The course would be conducted at the IIT Kanpur campus and it would be 4 days duration. Interested students can avail the course by paying a fee of Rs 20,000 while the fee for professionals is Rs 40,000. For accommodation students can stay IIT campus that would be managed by IIT authorities, informs an office bearer from the Institute. There will also be flight trials and testing at Flight Lab of IIT Kanpur. The proposed course aims at providing hands-on training to participants for understanding and designing a UAV. Significantly, IIT Kanpur also launched a portable unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in August 2014 to help the police, army and other security agencies for patrolling in the border areas for which they got lots of appreciation.
