Technology is taking a new shape every day, as the world is witnessing fourth industrial revolution or ‘Industry 4.0’. The industrial revolution has transited into a digital phase in recent years, and it is necessary for everyone to understand the digital phase of the industrial revolution. With an aim to bring a glimpse of the fourth industrial revolution or ‘Industry 4.0’, IIT Kanpur is hosting a technical summit, i.e., Industry 4.0 as a part of its annual fest ‘Techkriti 2019’.
Components of Industry 4.0
Industry 4.0 comprises of four major components namely –
Cyber-Physical Systems - Cyber-Physical system is an arrangement of computation, networking and physical processes. The system defines cyber and physical entities and the collaboration between the same through Facebook loops. Applications of the cyber-physical system include power generation and distribution, traffic controls, medicine and automotive systems.
Internet of Things (IoT) – On the other hand, Internet of Things (IoT) is termed as a computational concept that describes the idea of regular/everyday physical objects being connected to the internet and being able to identify themselves to other objects. As business and consumers are adopting smart technology on a massive scale, IoT is playing a vital role in the fourth industrial revolution.
Cloud Computing – Cloud computing is an emerging concept that plays a significant role in accessing data and programs over the internet instead of one’s computer hard drive. Cloud computing offers huge flexibility in its resources, and the concept has attracted business and industries in the phase of the fourth industrial revolution.
Cognitive Computing – Cognitive computing is an important concept, which is used to simulate the human thought process in a computerized model. In simple words, Cognitive Computing mimics the way in which the human brain works. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an emerging concept in this domain.
The above components of Industry 4.0 play a dominant role in forming a ‘smart factory’.
