Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur is set to host global cyber security competition in collaboration with various institutes based in the United States, Israel and other countries. It is the second edition of world’s largest cyber security event (student-run), Cyber Security Awareness Week. The final rounds of this global cyber security competition will take place from November 9 & November 17, 2017, in Israel, France, Abu Dhabi, Brooklyn and India. This year, one of the major themes of the competition is ‘Fake News’ over social media platforms. Professionals from various fields will suggest their ideas and solutions for regulating this menace.

The event will create a policy position for fighting ‘Fake News’ endemic. With an objective to mitigate the menace of ‘Fake News’ over social media platform, IIT Kanpur has invited students in public administration, public policy and law to collaborate with engineering students in finding solutions.
Cyber Security Awareness Week was founded by Tandon School of Engineering (New York University) 14 years ago. New York University (NYU) collaborated with Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and Abu Dhabi Centre in 2016 for Cyber Security to broaden Cyber Security Awareness Week beyond New York, Brooklyn, via simultaneous final rounds in India, North Africa and the Middle East.

According to sources, Information Technology (IT) students from Mexico and Canada could also qualify for finals in Brooklyn.
The global cyber security competition is a challenge to participants’ knowledge of various aspects of Information Security, from software and hardware penetration testing and protection to government policy and digital forensics.
The event and competition will also encourage participants to take up Cyber Security as the career option. IIT Kanpur will take steps to meet the requirement of skilled workforce in the field.
