A two-day institute-industry collaboration workshop was conducted by IIT Kanpur on 10th and 11th of August. It was the first time ever that an institute- industry workshop was conducted by the institute. The topic which was covered in the workshop was ‘Trending Welding Technology and the Complexity of Aluminium and Titanium Metals’.The entire event was coordinated by Janakarajan Ramkumar who is the Head of the Imagineering Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kanpur. Delegates from different industries and institutes joined the event.
Amitabha Bandopadhyay, an IIT Kanpur researcher inaugurated the programme and talked about the need for institute- industry collaboration workshop for the practical learning experience. He also stated that the Imagineering laboratory of IIT Kanpur has been successful in providing indigenous design and expertise in manufacturing. His address was followed by lectures and demonstration by industry experts from Fronius India Private Limited.
The workshop demonstrated the Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) technology. A special session was organized for intelligent welding systems and which included using the android applications.
The workshop was a huge success. The experts who joined the event stated that such an institute- industry collaboration workshop must be conducted at regular intervals. They also assured if such an event is conducted in the future then they will fully support and participation in the event.

The event was concluded with a farewell speech by Prof BV Phani of IIT Kanpur. In his speech, he appreciated the effort that was put by the department in conducting the workshop.
