The alumni of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur have come forward to mentor students of premier engineering institute to encourage them to pursue a career in the field of social entrepreneurship. The event was organised during the students-alumni meet by the SAC (Students Alumni Cell) of IIT Kharagpur.
IIT Kharagpur organised the alumni meet, in association with the alumni association at the Kolkata campus. During the meet, the alumni shared their experience in the field of social entrepreneurship.
General Secretary of Students’ Alumni Cell (IIT Kharagpur), Mr. Vishal Singh revealed that the youth of the nation are aware of opportunities in the area of social entrepreneurship. Currently, this filed is blooming keeping in mind the government schemes such as Start-Up India and Stand-up India.

The students of IIT Kharagpur organised a competition where students and alumni were grouped together into teams of five each. These teams were given a problem statement related to Social Entrepreneurship. The students need to debate and discuss amongst them and come up with an implementable business model.
Under the guidance of experienced and knowledgeable alumni in each team, the students came up with start-up or innovative ideas and talked about the sustainability, economic stability and necessity of their solutions. It also helped in conducting a positive and healthy debate among the crowd about the advantages and disadvantages of the model and the way it could be improvised.

Students in consultation with Alumni presented on different Social Entrepreneurship models on areas like Resource Sustainability, Eco-Tourism, Growth and Development of Villages through natural areas.
