Indian Institute of Technology (Kharagpur), in collaboration with NDLI (National Digital Library of India), is all set to tie up with different international libraries across the world. The official announcement regarding the same was made by NDLI at an international workshop conducted by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisations) last week where the noble organisation assured to promote the resource sharing and digital libraries of SAARC countries.
In-Charge of NDLI, Mr. P Das explained that procuring or obtaining international content is one significant aspect. Apart from this, being open and inclusive is also crucial. The information must be available in all forms, be it content, technology or data.

Adding further, Mr. P Das mentioned that NDLI had been busy in collaborating with European Foundation, which looks for improving and developing a digital cultural heritage platform (for Europe). National Library of Nepal, National Library of South Africa, National Library of The Netherlands and Tainacan Project (Brazil) are some of the digital libraries that evince interest to collaborate with NDLI, he added.
200 domain experts from India and abroad attended the workshop conducted by UNESCO. Representatives from Taylor & Francis, Google and Microsoft Research participated in the workshop and deliberated on the state-of-the-art technology, policies and practices accepted internationally for digital library design.

Ministry of Human Resource and Development is funding the NDLI project. It was kick-started by IIT Kharagpur with an objective to create a national online educational asset for students interested in innovation and research.
