The prestigious IIT Kharagpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Canada-based Carleton University with an objective to come together for research, capacity building and other academic partnerships. As a part of this MoU, both these institutes will figure out possibilities of student and faculty exchange programmes and other techniques for professional development. Apart from that, both the colleges will also focus on introducing collaborative masters level programmes.
Under the faculty exchange programmes, both the institutes are expected to take up joint research projects and collectively apply for joint funding opportunities with external agencies.
At present, one of the best-known research-focused universities in Canada, Carleton University, is aiming to explore possibilities of autonomous vehicles and technology enablers for smart cities. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur has its current focus on intelligent transportation, digital convergence, artificial intelligence and the future of smart cities.

Associate Vice President (AVP), Research & International at Carleton University, Dr. Karen Schwartz, in a statement, said that they are delighted to be a part of this collaboration and are looking forward to executing and launching multiple professional development programmes.
The Electronics and Electrical Engg department at IIT Kgp and the Department of Systems and Computer Engg at Carleton University are also discussing options and agenda to introduce unique dual degree programmes for both masters and doctoral degree students enrolled with the institutes.

Further, both the universities also look forward to offering distance learning courses in the fields of data analytics, management leadership, cyber security which will be taught by professional faculty from both the universities.
