With an objective to ensure a healthy gender ratio on campus, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) has started a special helpline service for girl students as well as an exclusive girl’s cell. Even though IIT Kharagpur has fewer girl students, most of them perform well in academics and turn out to be very active in different technological and social clubs. IIT Kharagpur also provides good sports facilities to girl students on the campus. IIT Kharagpur is making all the possible efforts to enroll more girl students.
This year, 7,137 girls cleared JEE Advanced examination. Even though getting admission in IIT Kharagpur depends on ranks secured by the candidate, the institute will assist the girl students in the choice filling and understand the seat allocation process.

One of the officials of IIT Kharagpur pointed that more girl students are not able to get admission in IITs as they fill fewer choices. Thus, the institute is encouraging girl students to fill as many as choices, and increase their chances of getting admission at IIT Kharagpur. The helpline centre launched by IIT Kharagpur will also assist the girl students to understand the career prospects in various streams of engineering.

The team also created a social group named ‘JEE Women Counselling 2017’ to help girls in clearing all their doubts related to IITs.
