The Students’ Alumni Cell of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur has launched a Student Mentorship Programme through which counselling and guidance will be provided to students on various aspects of student life. Under this programme, the students will have the chance to connect with an alumnus who also belongs tp the field of their interest.
After careful consideration, a mentor will be appointed for a student. The responsibility of the mentor will be to guide the assigned student through online chat, email etc. The two phases of mentorship programme have already been launched this year and the programme will continue in the coming years.

Vaibhav Chauhan, General Secretary of Students’ Alumni Cell at IIT Kharagpur explained that the main motive of the mentorship programme is to bring awareness among the students on diverse topics that include extra-curricular activities, research, and academics. The students will be guided by alumni members who have vast experiences. The students will be connected to the alumni through virtual chats or email.

Alumni of IIT Kharagpur who are from diverse fields have come forward to support the initiative. Most of the alumni are from finance, research, data analytics, consultancy and software development backgrounds. The first two phases of the programme received a positive response from the students.
One of the officials revealed that the institute has been successful in allotting a mentor to all the registered students. As per the process, the initial ice-breaking session will take place between the mentor and students. Later, the institute will organise the student and mentor interaction programme.
