Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) is planning to engage promising Post-Doctoral Fellows and Doctoral students from the United States (US) as the faculty members at the institute. A team from IIT Kharagpur will visit Washington DC and San Francisco to meet interested faculty candidates, and invite them to be a part of the institute. The team will also visit the campuses of various universities/ institutes that include Purdue, Johns Hopkins and Wisconsin-Madison.

IIT Kharagpur is the top rated institute in India for its research outcome and value-added academic programmes. The institute is bestowed with highly motivated faculty members. Director of IIT Kharagpur, Prof. P. Chakrabarti revealed that the institute had recruited a few highly qualified faculty members recently. These faculty members have been playing a significant role in research in various domains. Faculty members are the driving force at IIT Kharagpur, he added.

Even though Indian institutes performed well in NIRF Rankings 2017, the performance of Indian institutes at the global level is not up to the mark. Poor research output might be one of the reasons for the poor performance. Only three Indian institutes featured among top 200 institutes in the QS World Rankings. Recently, HRD Minister also suggested all the IITs attract international faculty and students. Indian institutes must also make collaborations with various international universities and institutes to boost up the global rankings.
The step taken by IIT Kharagpur in inviting international faculty from abroad will bring a new impetus to the research output of the institute.
