The first phase of placements at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur began on December 1, 2017. On the first day of recruitment, reputed companies took part in the placement process at IIT Kharagpur and rolled out more than 180 offers. 22 students of IIT Kharagpur were offered overseas posts on the first day of placement.
On the second day, over 36 companies participated in the hiring process. The institute received various offers and 1200 students have been placed in the first phase of placement i.e. more than the placements recorded last year. Apple Inc. made its first appearance at IIT Kharagpur and recruited five students for its Bangalore division. IIT Kharagpur recorded participation from 200 companies including PSU.
Placement for undergraduate students went up to 75% in 2017, i.e. 12% more as compared to 2016. Postgraduate students also got lucrative offers and witnessed a 14% rise in the placement offers, whereas, placements for B.Arch went up by 20%. 26 Ph.D. students also got placed at reputed research institutes.

On the second day of placements at IIT Kharagpur, a total number of eight students bagged international offers. Over 36 companies took part in the recruitment process and made 147 offers. Quantiphi Analytics has emerged as the major recruiter so far with 34 job offers. Second in line was Intel with 33 job offers. IIT Kharagpur placements will continue till December 14, 2017.
With a motive to encourage young minds contributing to core sectors, Career Development Centre at IIT Kharagpur organised early placements. Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) took part in the early placements. ONGC and ISRO made 13 offers during the early placement season.

Chairperson of CDC, Professor Debasis Deb revealed that they were happy with the response received from students this recruitment season. Students have worked hard for being placed in a PSUs, he added. IIT Kharagpur has been updating and upgrading its curriculum to match the industry requirement. CDC has been taking different innovative measures to strengthen the relationship between industry and IIT Kharagpur. The institute also provides industrial internships to students at least for one semester. IIT Kharagpur, CDC organises workshops and open houses to enlighten the students about the significance of core engineering sectors.
