A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between IIT Kharagpur and Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science. This MOU has been signed to launch Integrated MSc-PhD programme at the institute. The course will be jointly supervised by the both institutes. The students who are opting for the new course will be registered in the School of Bio Science at IIT Kharagpur.
P Chakrabarti, Director of IIT Kharagpur opined that the course will act as a medium between the two institutes to conduct academic activities on a common platform. Both the institutes have been worked out for the identification of outlines of the course and the credits that are associated with the course. The course will be offered in Chemical and Molecular Biology.
The certificate for the students who have completed pursuing the course will be awarded by IIT Kharagpur. The pattern of examination, allotment of grades, rules and regulations are laid down by the institute. One faculty member from each institute will be appointed to supervise the students. The IACS is also planning to expand its activities to all other streams especially Biological Sciences and to make faculty members to participate in teaching at various levels. Even the central government has opined that the faculty members of science research institutes must participate in teaching at various levels.
