Rekhi Centre of Excellence for the Science of Happiness of IIT Kharagpur has entered into a collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Madhya Pradesh. Through this MoU, IIT Kharagpur will play an important role in developing Happiness Index for measuring the well-being of the people in Madhya Pradesh. Director of IIT Kharagpur and Department of Happiness of MP government signed the MoU in the presence of CM of Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Now, IIT Kharagpur will develop the index and analyse data which will be collected by the state government of MP to assess the level of happiness. After analysing the data, IIT Kharagpur will suggest some probable steps enhance the happiness meter in the state!

IIT Kharagpur will also play a crucial role in developing an online screening and assessment system with an objective to screen and identify the suitable volunteers who have come forward to be a part of this collaborative exercise. The government of Madhya Pradesh submitted a database of 30,000 volunteers who have come ahead and registered to take part in the project.
Director of IIT Kharagpur, Prof. Chakraborty appreciated the volunteers who have come forward for this initiative despite having to cater to their regular duties. He further added that the institute is also planning to launch online courses on happiness through the evaluation system which is available at the Centre for Educational Technology at IIT Kharagpur.

Patron of Rekhi Centre of Happiness at IIT Kharagpur, Mr. Satinder Rekhi assured to provide funding for District Happiness Centre at Jabalpur. Mr. Satinder studied in Jabalpur 50 years ago and decided to contribute to the institute and the city in some way or the other.
