Under National Supercomputing Mission or NSM, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur will be the first academic institute to receive a supercomputing facility. One of the officials of IIT Kharagpur revealed that the facility would provide large computational support to users to carry out teaching as well as research activities that involve High-Performance Computing (HPC). The facility will bring a new era of research and innovation in the country.
Prof. Chakrabarti, Director of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur revealed that the new Peta-Flop system with CPU as well as CPU-GPU based servers along with existing High-Performance Computing equipment will render about 1.5 Peta-Flop capacity support to different areas. Most of the researchers of IIT Kharagpur are already involved in these areas and the facility will give a boost to carry out research and teaching in an effective way.
