To address the issues and needs of Urban Poor, the Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Madras has come together with the Sydney Varsity. Both of the institutes will work to chalk out a plan that can be helpful to provide cheap, durable yet quality housing to the Urban Poor.
The Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Madras has said in a statement that both of the university will indulge in research projects and collaborations and also will work on a series of PhD supervisions on this topic.
As a part of the project, A roundtable meeting was held at the IIT Madras on Thursday on the ‘Enabling prefabricated construction to improve mass housing delivery in India and Australia' project by both of the institutes where key stakeholders from both of the countries who are from the governments, academia and industry were brought together.
The statement issued by the Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Madras has clarified that the initiative is funded by the Australia-India Council of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade which is a part of the affairs of the Government of Australia.
Sidney Newton, the professor at the Sidney Varsity has said a fundamental change is taking place with the construction industry in India with the unprecedented demand for cheap and durable housing.

He also added that the initiative will prove beneficial for a pivotal role in the sector.
