The faculty from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) is on the process of introducing an Artificial Intelligence platform tr by the name of "AI4Bharat" which will act as a base for providing AI-based solutions for the various problems that are arising in India. As per a statement that had been issued by the Institute, the community will comprise of professionals, domain experts, students along with policymakers as well as academicians in the field of Artificial Intelligence .
On the day of the launch, sources from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras stated that the platform has been launched to provide technologies and solutions that have been derived from AI to tackle real-world issues in the industries of Healthcare, Agriculture, Sustainability, Digital India as well as Smart Cities.
Two assistant professors from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Dr Pratyush Kumar and Dr Mitesh M Khapra are responsible for the launch of the platform. Dr Pratyush Kumar pressed on the issue that the usage of Artificial Intelligence needs to be determined as per the requirements of India. He states that most of the research work that has been conducted in the field of AI has been done on the basis of the problems that are faced by the issues of the Western World. He added that there is a need to change the focus to the needs and problems that are faced in India.

To Combat the issue, he stated that the involvement of the Government of India, as well as the domain experts, will come in handy when shifting the focus for developing solutions catered to India. Identifying problems and solutions that are specific to the needs of India along with figuring AI-based solutions for such problems will be the focus.

Dr Mitesh Khapra added to the words of Dr Pratyush Kumar stating that the time had arrived to create a platform for the purpose of developing the industry of Artificial Intelligence. The platform will provide the professionals and experts in the field of AI to come together along with the Government to come up with solutions and develop technologies and solutions that will actually work for the country. For this purpose, he added, that a community is being developed of 100 AI experts that have been carefully selected along with 50 Domain experts as well. Sources claim that the platform will be open for those keen students, who will be guided in the processes of building solutions.
