Students of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee and Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) will now be able to participate in the joint PhD programmes. This has been possible because of the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between both institutes. The purpose of signing the MoU is to bring academic cooperation between the institutes. This effort will be mutually beneficial to both organizations as the students of IIT can be a part of ongoing activities at ARIES and they can also utilize all the existing and upcoming facilities at ARIES.
The MoU will facilitate the exchange of information, collaborations, advancement of knowledge, mutual benefits, and frequent interactions between the two leading institutes. Another important factor that needs to be noticed as an outcome of MoU is that they have also agreed to sponsor research projects jointly. These institutes have also agreed for the exchange of faculty, development, and consultancy, scientists and students, exchange of scientific and technical matter, holding joint conferences, seminars, workshops, and many other short-term courses.
Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee said that the primary aim of this collaboration and partnership is to bring the research scholars of IIT and ARIES together so that they can use their respective strengths for addressing interesting scientific and engineering problems. ARIES is one of the leading research institutes in the field of observation Astronomy and Astrophysics, Atmospheric Sciences, and Solar Physics. On the other hand, IIT is the premier institute of national importance that provides education mainly in engineering, sciences, management, humanities and social sciences, architecture, and planning.
