IIT Roorkee has removed the restrictions at the various girls hostels of the institute in order to bring them at par with the rules applied at the boys hostels. The decision was made after addressing various demands from the students regarding the same.
IIT Roorkee is not the sole college where the girls have been demanding for equal rules for both girls and boys hostels. Female students across India have been protesting against discrimination in the hostel curfew timings and rules.

Talking about the removal of hostel curfew, Director of IIT Roorkee, A K Chaturvedi said that students have been asking for this for a long time and the authorities have decided to remove the restrictions. He added that girls will also be allowed to leave their hostels and roam around the campus round the clock.
The director also informed that girls, as well as boys, have been permitted to access common rooms of all hostels. To maintain security and decorum, two vans will roam around to patrol the campus area. Girls will also be able to call these vans in the case of emergency.
Chaturvedi has also asked the staff to open the library for 24x7 throughout the examinations and a week prior to that.

Girls from various colleges in Delhi have been protesting against the gender discrimination regarding hostel rules and curfew timings. The girls have been demanding similar rules for girls hostel and boys hostel.
