The Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Roorkee has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Banaras Hindu University - IIT BHU . The MoU has been signed to mentor the newly established IIT BHU Department for Architecture and Planning. The Uttarakhand based IIT will also provide academic support to the Department for Architecture and Planning (IIT-BHU).
The collaboration between IIT Roorkee and IIT-BHU will facilitate student exchange programmes, joint research projects, faculty exchange programmes, joint conferences, and seminars.
Both the institutes are also looking forward to sharing their own data bank information with each other using digital and physical libraries.
The IIT Roorkee Director and Professor Ajit K Chaturvedi and IIT BHU Director and Professor Pramod Kumar Jain signed the MoU at IIT Roorkee campus.
The IIT BHU sees its Roorkee counterpart as the best fit for the project as the institute has played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s architectural and planning demographics and introducing changes and reforms in a large scale for quite some time.

Both IIT Roorkee and IIT BHU are considered as the premier education institutes in India for science, technology, research and architecture. The IIT BHU, in 2012 was carved out of Benaras Engineering College which later became Institute of Technology, Benaras Hindu University. Currently, the institute has 14 departments of education and 3 interdisciplinary schools.
