IIT Roorkee is facing a severe decline in the number of MBA intakers. Out of 100 seats, only 49 seats were taken by students this year. With CAT 2019 around, the lookout for MBA 2020 aspirants have begun. According to university officials, the reason for this steep decline is the tough entry procedure of the institution.
Recently, the university removed the Engineering or B.Tech bar from the MBA programme, allowing non-engineers to apply and study on the campus, to increase the number of applicants. MBA programme is offered by the Department of Management Studies at IIT-R with a total of 100 seats. Initially, in 1998, at the time of the foundation of Department, non-engineers were allowed in the course but just in two years, IIT-R doors were closed for non-engineer applicants.
