An MoU has been signed between the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and the Indian Space Research Organisation (Department of Space). This partnership will see Space Technology Cell (STC) of the ISRO-IIT Roorkee at the institute’s campus. IIT Roorkee has recognised its need to increase its institutional interaction and in turn complement the scope of activities which will be taking place under the STC programme.
ISRO-IIT Roorkee’s Space Technology Cell will be dedicated to helping ISRO with advanced research and study in the relevant areas and also provide the resources required any future programmatic and technology needs that may arise in the ISRO. The main aim of the STC is to boost the infrastructure, experience, research potential and expertise that are present in both the institution, ISRO and IIT Roorkee.

Visiting scientists, experts, faculty members, research personnel, administrative, support and technical staff will constitute the ISRO-IIT Roorkee Space Technology Cell. The overall management of the STC will be the responsibility of IIT Roorkee. They will also provide the necessary administrative support along with infrastructure and other kinds of support.

The Space Technology Cell is one of the many educational initiatives that the ISRO has undertaken in the past few months. Earlier, ISRO had also announced that they will provide school children with a Young Scientist programme that will allow three students from each student to learn basics about Space science and other space related knowledge.
