Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar (IIT-Ropar) and Central Scientific Instruments Organisation or CSIO have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the advancement of science and technology. CSIO and IIT Ropar will work together for the development of academics.
Through this MoU, IIT Ropar will facilitate student and staff exchange towards co-supervision of Ph.D. theses, postgraduate and undergraduate programmes. The MoU will enable both the organisations to take an active part in research activities. The research scholars of both the institutes will get a chance to interact and exchange ideas with scientists and professors. Both the institutes will also promote joint research activities through consultancy activities and externally funded schemes.

The MoU will also facilitate both the institutes to share domain knowledge and available facilities in specific research areas. The specific research areas are: -

- Photonics
- Physics

The agreement between the two institutes will give a new impetus to the development and research in these areas. The joint research initiatives will promote new ideas and innovations in the science and technology is possible.
According to a recent survey, India lags in research compared to various global universities in institutes. Therefore, various universities and institutes must take up joint research activities by collaborating with various organisations and institutes. The Indian government needs to provide adequate funding for bolstering the research in the country.
