International jobs have always been lucrative for IITians. Many students left India to take up IT jobs in countries such as UK and US. These countries have a greater demand for skilled IT professionals. On the other hand, the immigration policies of these countries have favoured the aspirants. However, this trend has started to change gradually.
According to the recent data prepared as per IIT placement trends , only a limited percentage of IIT students are showing interest in international job offers. Many students often tend to prefer domestic jobs to international jobs.

According to IIT placements 2016-17, the number of students opting international jobs witnessed a dip. The trend was observed across all IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) . For instance, none of the IITs recorded more than 4% of students opting international placements.

In the year 2016-17, the percentage of students opted for international jobs at IIT placements is given below –

At IIT Indore , the international placement trends are not up to the mark as only 4 students opted international job offers between 2012-17.
Experts attribute multiple reasons for the changing trend with regard to international placements at IITs. In India, opportunities in core engineering sectors have improved over the last few years. On the other hand, many IIT graduates are interested in setting up their own start-ups. Therefore, students opting for international jobs in IIT placements declined in recent years, experts say.
