Indian Institutes of Technology emerged among the top four institutes which have produced the most unicorn founders or startups. The first spot was bagged by Stanford University which produced a total number of 51 unicorn startups. It is followed by Harvard University with 37 unicorn startups by Harvard University. The third rank has been bagged by the University of California which produced a total number of 18 unicorn startups followed by IITs which produced 12 unicorn startups. The high rankings clearly reveal that IITs are the best option for the students who want to create a billion-dollar business in India. The rankings were given by UK-based payroll and accounting company - Sage.

Among all the IITs, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi has produced more unicorn founders. Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay , Kanpur and Roorkee also played a significant role in producing unicorn founders.
V.Ramgopal Rao, Director of IIT Delhi, revealed that IIT Delhi has a unique culture. The students there are more connected to the problems which are prevalent in the society. Therefore, they look for solutions and become entrepreneurs. Some of the experts from the industry indicated that it was the competition within the IITs that was the driving force behind the creation of more unicorn founders.
India bagged the third spot in terms of countries that are home to the most number of unicorn startups. The first rank was bagged by the US with 144 unicorn startups followed by China with 47 unicorn startups and India with 10 unicorn startups.
