In a two-day conclave held by the Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Kharagpur held from 28th July 2019, all the IITs pan India discussed on the topics such as admitting more international students, fundings, international collaborations, degree provisions etc for expanding the reach of IITs across the globe. The conclave was named ‘The Pan IIT Dean of International Relations.’
The participant IITs marked their presence in IIT Kharagpur where the deans and International Relation executives came from across 9 IITs in India which includes IIT Delhi , IIT Madras , IIT Bombay , IIT Tirupathi , IIT Mandi , IIT Dhanbad , IIT Guwahati , IIT Kanpur , IIT Indore , IIT Roorkee , IIT Palakkad and IIT Kharagpur .
Prof. Baidurya Bhattacharya, who is the dean of IIT Kharagpur International Relationships said that the IIT alumni are one of the finest products that India is producing after Independence. He added that although all the IITs have their different approach to reach excellence, to be relevant on a global scale, a unite between all the IITs are needed. If the IITs come together, with the strength of 5,000 faculty members, more than one lakh students across 23 IITs, IITs can compete with the largest university chains in India.
Recently, IITs have introduced graduate entrance for the students in selected countries where the students can skip the JEE Mains examinations for admissions into IITs and directly sit at JEE Advanced . The IIT Guwahati associate Dean, Ms Rakhi Chaturvedi expressed a need to tap into the network of alumni and academicians who are residing in the various parts of the world for the benefit of the institute.
The Associate Dean of IIT Dhanbad, Prof. Somnath Chattopadhyay has reflected on the 5-year undergraduate programme in Mining and Petroleum Engineering at IIT Dhanbad conducted for the bright students of only African countries and Afghanistan!
The IIT representatives also discussed taking international students’ admission through ICCR or Indian Council for Cultural Relations by streamlining their scholarship schemes at par for IITs which complements the institute’s admission criteria.

Prof. Mahesh Panchagnula, the Dean of IIT Madras has put light on how there can be a presence of diverse faculties from around the world in IITs complementing with the diversity seen in the country itself and making it more appealing to the internationally diverse students.
The associate dean of IIT Kharagpur, Prof, Anandaroop Bhattacharya has proposed to create a consortium with all the IITs on the same line of consortium present in the countries like France, Japan, Germany etc.

Professor K N Satyanarayana who is the director of IIT Tirupati has backed this kind of initiative by IIT Kharagpur by saying it will be helpful to standardise the IIT academic processes throughout the country.
