Union HRD Minister, Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal announced that the premier institutes in India such as IIITs and IITs would not hike the tuition fee for the academic session 2020-21. Considering the current situation in India, the decision for no fee hike has been taken after consulting the Standing Committee. The government wants to mitigate the hardships faced by students due to the ongoing situation in the country, he added.
Explaining further, IIITs, which decided to hike 10% tuition fees for the upcoming academic session will not be implemented. All IIITs, which are centrally-funded will not hike the tuition fees this year. Apart from the undergraduate programmes, the fee hike may not be applicable for other courses as well. However, the final decision on fee hike for postgraduate courses is yet to be taken. The HRD Ministry has further suggested the IIITs that function under PPP (Public-Private Partnership) mode not to increase tuition fees for the upcoming academic session.
Usually, a B.Tech student pays Rs. 2,00,000 per annum for admission in IITs. The same fee structure will come into effect for the upcoming academic session. It is good news for the B.Tech aspirants of IITs and IIITs, as they need not worry about the hike in tuition fees.
