The preliminary examination of Engineering Services 2017 will take place on January 8, 2017, and UPSC has made all the arrangements for the examination. The admit cards have been released on the official site recently. The examination is being held to fill up 440 vacancies in various engineering disciplines that fall under UPSC.

However, there is a slight change in the name of one of the venues of examination. The candidates from Kolkata whose roll numbers are between 0096334 and 0118978 must note that the name of the examination centre has been from Modemland Girls High School (HS) to Modern Land High School (HS). The centre is located at Santosh Avenue, Jadavpur. The name of the examination centre was printed mistake on the admit card.
UPSC announced that the candidates who are going to take the examination in the centre mentioned above must download the revised admit cards from the official site.

The examination is being carried out to fill up vacant posts that come under the following category:
- Civil Engineering (Category I)
- Mechanical Engineering (Category II)
- Electrical Engineering (Category III)
- Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (Category IV)
A preliminary examination is considered as the first stage of recruitment process. The candidates who qualify in the prelims have to take Mains examination. The last round of the recruitment process is an interview. The candidates will be selected as per his/her performance in the last stage of recruitment process.
