A two-day seminar was organised by the school of mass communication of IMS Dehradun.The theme was media regulation- A critical analysis. Many topics were discussed during the same for eg: "do we need a regulation for electronic media,web and advertising? Paid news and role of PR, changing trends in media and are there malpractices in the media?"
The chief guest of the seminar was Dr B.R Gupta, chairman, media monitor, he shared his experiences with everyone in the hall.
On the first day, there were three technical sessions where twelve research papers were presented by the participants.The three sessions were chaired by senior media experts and academician Dr Pradeep Chakravarty, Mr Anil Sati and Dr Sushil Kumar, who gave their valuable feedback and commented on the presented papers.
On the second day, there were 8 research papers presented by the scholars in the technical session, chaired by senior media expert Dr Sushil Kumar Sharma. In the valedictory session, the chief guest was the chancellor of IMS unison university.The seminar was successful and left the participants with mixed opinions. While some were of the opinion that there should be a regulator for electronic and web media to avoid malpractices in the media, others were opposite.
