On July 19, 2018, the Government of India has announced a three-year visa for Bangladesh students who are willing to study in India. A bilateral agreement has been signed between India and Bangladesh students in this regard. Every year, a large number of students from Bangladesh takes up higher studies in Indian universities . The move will further help Bangladeshi students aspiring to study in India.
Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Mr. Harsh Vardhan Shringla revealed that Home Minister of India, Mr. Rajnath Singh signed on a revised travel deal during his visit to Bangladesh from July 13 to July 15, 2018 . The revised travel deal relaxed visa norms for Bangladesh students desiring to study in India, he added.

Explaining further about the bilateral agreement , Mr. Harsh Vardhan Shringla mentioned that Bangladeshi students would immediately get a visa for a minimum of three years. Students who wish to study in India will get three-year visas immediately after taking admission in desired college or university, he added.
Mr. Harsh Vardhan indicated that India is one of the significant destinations for Bangladeshi students for higher studies. India is the second largest English speaking country in the world with 800 universities and 3,800 colleges . In 2017, the Indian government issued 1.4 million visas to Bangladeshi students. The Indian government has also set up its biggest visa centre in Dhaka, he concluded.

Recently, the government of India initiated ‘Study in India’ scheme through which 19,000 seats in the 100 best universities of the country will be offered to foreign students.
