India Secures 2nd Spot in Emerging Markets University Rankings; IISc in Top 15

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) bagged the 15 ^th position among the top universities for the first time and India has secured the second place in the list of top 300 universities in emerging economies. China bagged the first place in the rankings.

According to ‘BRICS and Emerging Economies University Rankings 2017’ which were released on December 1, 2016, it was indicated that India secured the second position with 27 universities whereas China bagged the first position with 52 universities making it to the list.

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has made the country proud by securing the 14 ^th rank among the top 300 universities. The teaching environment and emphasis on research have made the institute bag top position in the rankings.

Director of IISc, Anurag Kumar revealed that increase in government science funding has enabled the institute to develop infrastructure and enhance grants for new hires as well as interdisciplinary research.

On the other hand, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay bagged 26 ^th position this year. Last year IIT-B secured 29 ^th position in the rankings. This year, there has been an improvement in rankings due to better performance in parameters evaluation.

India would overtake Taiwan in the future as the second-most represented country among the top 200 universities. There are 19 universities in India which made it to top 200 while a total number of 21 universities of Taiwan were among the top 200 list.
