With the rise in the startups in the country and in a bid to inculcate the spirit of entrepreneurship in young minds of Jammu and Kashmir, a three-day “start-up” weekend has been organised by the Army. The three-day event has been scheduled to start from 20th September 2019 at the campus of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University as per official statements.
Lt. Col. Abhinav Navneet, PRO (Defence) Udhampur stated that the Army’s Counter Insurgency Force, which is backed up by the White Knights Corps in partnership with a Bangalore-based start-up seed accelerator, Techstars will be hosting the three-day event at the varsity.
He further informed that the main of the startup weekend is to encourage the young minds of J&K to become “Job Creator not Job Seekers”. He adds that entrepreneurship has been flourishing in the region and as of now it just needs the right kind of motivation and support. Through the event, the youth will be able to focus more on entrepreneurship and develop a “start-up culture among the youth”.
The event will not only teach the students the basics of entrepreneurship and start-ups but also encourage them to participate in the event. The participants will be asked to pitch ideas within 60 seconds. Once the top ideas have been selected, teams will be formed and the teams will be responsible for developing a prototype and/or a sellable product.

In order to add further value to the event, a parallel workshop will take place on September 21 for those who have been successfully running their startups and are looking forward to funding to enhance their businesses.The officer said investors from diverse fields of expertise are expected to attend the event and share their experiences with the audience on September 22.

The Startup Weekend will be the first event like this in the Jammu and Kashmir region in which many budding entrepreneurs will participate.
