Jamia Millia Islamia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Coast Guard , Ministry of Defence for academic mobility of personnel of the Indian Coast Guard. The MoU between the two will provide academic collaboration between the two institutes. Jamia Millia Islamia will offer bachelor’s and master’s programmes to officers and sailors of Indian Coast Guard.
The MoU was signed at the varsity by Mr. AP Siddiqui (IPS), JMI Registrar and Mr. Gurupdesh Singh, Deputy Inspector and General Principal Director, Coast Guard Headquarters in the presence of JMI Vice-Chancellor, Talat Ahmad.

Prof Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, stated that the MoU will facilitate the officers and sailors to pursue their higher education at the varsity to help widen their job opportunities once they retire from their service as Indian Coast Guard . This agreement will provide them with an opportunity to seek a career outside the naval field. Most of the naval officers join the services at a very young age and this step is great towards their educational advancement. JMI will provide the personnel of Indian Navy with a platform to complete their education through distance learning mode .

The main aim of this agreement is to work towards the evaluation and recognition of such training programmes . The Coast Guard conducts various service training courses for the personnel at Indian Navy training centres located in different parts of the country.
