The Lok Sabha Manifesto 2024 of the Indian National Congress has been released today, April 7, 2024. Filled with numerous promises and hopes, it has something for the students too. The INC has promised that the national-level entrance examinations, NEET and CUET will be made optional for all states once it wins in the upcoming General Elections. Currently, these examinations are mandatory for the states to adopt in their higher educational institutes. This has sparked the debate of making changes in the education policy from another point.

Though many educationalists and intellectuals are welcoming this initiative, some are also questioning its implementation. The party has promised to ensure that each state has the right to accept or deny the NEET and CUET exams conducted by the union government and rather conduct their own admission process that will follow the guidelines shared by the union government. With this, the state governments will be independent to adopt their own process for all state-funded and state-approved HEIs.
NEET Not Mandatory

One of the major highlights of INC’s Loksabha Manifesto 2024 for students is the declaration to write off the pending Educational Loans up to March 15, 2024. The government will compensate the banks against this write-off. The congress has also stated that they will revisit and amend the National Education Policy (NEP-2020) as well that was introduced by the BJP government.

The points introduced in the Congress Manifesto 2024 for educational reform and employment are very lucrative. However, implementing all these promises considering the additional financial burden on the economy is still a question. The Congress Party which is leading the INDI Bloc has given all that’s needed for the new voters to look up to the opposition and make them win the upcoming elections.
