The Chairman of Railway Board and the Chancellor of the University Of Birmingham announced to offer the Joint Masters programme in Railway Systems Engineering and Integration for the academic year 2020- 21. The course offered will be a dual M.Sc. degree programme.
Vinod Kumar Yadav, the chairman of Railway Board and the University Of Birmingham Chancellor Lord Karan Billimoria recently announced to offer the Joint Masters programme in Railway Systems Engineering and Integration for the academic year 2020- 21. The course will be offered at the National Rail Transportation Institute (NRTI).
The Vice-chancellor of the University of Birmingham Professor Sir David Eastwood, Faculty members of the University of Birmingham along with Rajesh Tiwari, Member Traction and other senior officials of Railway Board were present while the course offering announcement was done.
While addressing the members, Sir David said that the university is looking forward to work with the Indian railways and expressed his sense of gratitude to get an opportunity to work with the Indian railways.
Mr. Yadav said that the Indian Railways has seen a lot of transformation over the years and has managed to meet the modernisation and enhance its capacity. He also added that the Indian Railways would like to have a long term association with the University of Birmingham.
NRTI will offer a dual M.Sc. degree programme. After completing a year of study at both the Institute, students will receive two post-graduate degrees from both the Institutes. Some modules of the programme will also be offered in online mode. The online modules will offer a Postgraduate Certificate and will support undergraduate teaching by the University of Birmingham faculty at NRTI.

According to the Railways Ministry, the dual programme will help NTRI students learn from the world-class expertise along with the facilities offered in railway systems at the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education. BCRRE will get a chance to get an insight of the Indian transport system which will help them to get associated with the research and development with the country in future.
The Centre of Excellence for Next-Generation Transportation Systems has taken the initiative after an MoU was set by NRTI and the University of Birmingham on December 18, 2019.
