An interactive workshop on the scope and relevance of management research was organized by MDI Gurgaon on January 8 and 9, 2016, in order to emphasize and prove that the area of research is very much imperative for a management professional. The event was inaugurated by Bhuvesh Khanna, CEO (BW Commmunities-Business World) that was followed by a welcome note by Prof. M.P. Jaiswal, Dean (Research & Accreditation), MDI Gurgaon.
Traditionally the management and research has been seen as two mutually exclusive domains and the MDI Gurgaon is all set to change this perception and prove that in fact the two disciplines represent a holistic understanding of how an enterprise can prosper in a dynamic and complex business environment.
Prof. M.P. Jaiswal elucidated on the exclusion of research in management studies and highlighted the innovation created by MDI around the start-ups. “In line with the current government policies and initiatives, MDI should partner with government and industry particularly with start-up ecosystem in building capacity and providing directions.”
There was also a panel discussion on “Emerging Research Methodologies in Management” that featured Prof. Raj Garg, Indiana University Penn., USA, Prof. Mukesh Chaudhary, Indiana University Penn., USA, Ms. Sangeeta Goel, Additional Director General, Doordarshan, Govt. of India and Prof. Janice L. Gogan Bentley University, USA who shared their discerning thoughts on the subject.
While addressing the panel Prof. Raj Garg elaborated on the impact of digital technology on the cross cultural technology in foreign universities. There were around 70 plus researchers who participated in the workshop.
There was a short networking break after which the discussion steered towards “Implementation of Assurance of Learning (AOL) in Business School.” The enlightening presentation was led by Prof. Suneel Maheshwari, Indiana University Penn., USA, Prof. Framarz Byramjee, Indianna University Penn., USA, Prof. Mukesh Chaudhry, Indiana University Penn., USA and Prof. Raj Garg, Indiana University Penn., USA.
The end of the day saw a session themed “Contemporary Issues on Innovation and Management” that saw participation from subject experts such as Prof. Varinder M. sharma, Indiana University Penn., USA, Prof. Suneel Maheshwari, Indiana University Penn., USA and Prof. Mukesh Chaudhary Indian University Penn., USA.
The start of the day 2 of the workshop saw a welcome address by Prof. M. P. Jaiswal and a keynote address by Prof. A. Parsuraman, Miami University, USA and who is also a well-known management Guru in the area of service quality. The day concluded with a vote of thanks and distribution of certificates.
While talking about the successful completion of the conference Prof. M. P. Jaiswal said,” As a management institute, we are constantly treading the thin balance between applied and theoretical knowledge. To create a successful manager, we believe that one not only needs to understand what to do in a particular situation but also how exactly. Management research plugs this gap and greatly enhances one’s decision making skills. So, it’s about time we realised its relevance and gave it the importance it deserves.”
