IP University to Offer MOOC in Society and Media; Registrations Open till July 15

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprasth University (GGSIPU) will be offering an online course on Society and Media. The application process for IP University MOOC on Society and Media will go on till July 15, 2020.

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has released a notification announcing that the university will offer a MOOC of the duration of 15 weeks. MOOCs, or Massive Open Online Courses, are extremely popular programmes which are offered by almost all the leading law colleges in India . The course that will be provided by IP University is named as Society and Media in its second phase and it will be launched through the platform of SWAYAM of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the Government of India.

The registration process of this MOOC on Society and Media has already been started by the IP University and all the interested candidates can apply by July 15, 2020. This is a free online course and it will help those students whose academic schedules have been severely affected due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the lockdown which followed the pandemic for containing the virus.

MOOCs on Society and Media have been among the top five courses that were launched on the SWAYAM portal in the odd semester of the academic session of 2019. There were a total of more than 1,200 enrollments for the course across the country. Due to the demand for the course and its qualify of content, Society and Media has been selected this year among 42 other courses from across several universities. The MOOC is coordinated and designed by Dr. Durgesh Tripathi who is the founding faculty of USMC (the University School of Mass Communication) at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.

IP University will provide the online course on Society and Media as a joint effort of the media academicians from the central and state universities across the nation. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will be responsible for conducting the examinations for this 15 weeks long online course. Upon the successful completion of the course, the learner will be issued a certificate that will be verified by the university.

Dr. Tripathi gave his views on the MOOC and said that students from various subjects and disciplines should enrol in the MOOC of Society and Media in order to get a better understanding of the role that media plays in our society. It is a fact known by everyone that media impacts all of us and has become an integral part of our lives. He said that the students must take advantage of the situation and get on board with this course so that they can gain new perspectives on how the media functions especially in times like these days when we are flooded with fake news and misinformation.
