Debasis Deb, Chairman of the Career Development Centre, IIT Kharagpur said that the number of offers made this year is less on Day 2 as compared to 2015 but there has been a rise in the number of offers made by the analytics firms.

He further added that the institute tries to balance the offers by inviting companies from all the sectors but hiring has shifted towards IT and analytics.

Another major development this placement season is that Google will not be participating in campus placements and has decided to go off-campus. Convener of All-IITs Placement Committee (AIPC), Kaustubha Mohanty explained the reason behind this development and said that Google’s recruitment process is rigorous and it breaches a few recruitment norms set by IITs and therefore Google has decided to go for off-campus hiring.
