The heyday of IIT-Kharagpur's annual placements continues for the year of 2016 with the highest salary being offered to the tune of INR 1.5 crore to students, revealed one of the reliable sources from the institute.

Till now 345 offers were made to the students of the institute. The institute now follows one-offer one student policy. In the past two years, the institute had seen the highest compensation package of INR 1.5 crore. However, the crore-plus salaries are as per dollar-to-rupee conversion.
Total eight candidates have bagged lucrative international offers from top companies like -
- Oracle
- Microsoft
- Sprinklr
- TSMC
- NTT Communications
- Sprinklr
This year, a total of 2,100 students are taking part in the placements event that will continue till 18 December 2016. Till now several United States based companies are leading the tally with the maximum numbers of offers.

Several students are of the view that these companies not only give weightage to the academic performances of the students in the interview, but they also take a holistic view of the candidates' additional qualifications like -
- Project work and problem-solving
- Cumulative Grade Points Average or the CGPA
- Skills and technical knowledge

Besides these, other big companies that took part in the recruitment drive are PayPal, Deloitte, and Samsung. The institute also hopes to get offers from several PSUs which are scheduled to visit the campus in the first two weeks of the placement season. Already thirteen PSUs have given their confirmation to participate in the placement drive, informed an official of the institute's Career Development Centre.
