Archisman Panigrahi, topper of West Bengal Class 12 examination was shocked to see his name in the merit list of Jadavpur University. The most surprising thing is that he did not apply for any course at Jadavpur University, and his name featured in four subjects of merit list. He was unaware about the matter until his friend brought to the notice. Archisman Panigrahi’s name was featured in the merit list of Mathematics, Geology, Chemistry and Physics. However, the marks and birth date beside Panigrahi’s name were not his actual details.

He took up the matter with the authorities of the Jadavpur University through a letter. Addressing the Dean of Jadavpur University, Panigrahi indicated that he had never applied for any programme, and his name was featured in the top of the merit list. Finally, Vice Chancellor of the varsity assured that the it would take up the issue with cyber crime department of the police.

Recently, Jadavpur University launched M.A in Journalism, and the total intake of the course is 40. The application process for the course ended on June 19, 2017. The classes for the first batch will begin from the current academic session. So far, the varsity offered PGD in Journalism. The Master’s course in Journalism will develop both theoretical and practical approach among the students. The varsity will also invite professionals in the field who are associated with various renowned news papers to deliver lectures.
