Finally, Jadavpur University has revised the admission criteria for M.A Mass Communication programme. A committee constituted by the varsity recommended change in the admission criteria. As per revised rules, students who completed UG degree in any discipline can apply to M.A Mass Communication programme at Jadavpur University. Earlier, the varsity gave preference to only those students who possess B.A degree. This particular admission criterion received wide opposition from students and teachers as the varsity violated the UGC norms.

According to UGC norms (2003), students from any discipline whether it is B.Sc, B.Com or B.A can apply for Masters in Mass Communication. However, the earlier admission criteria of the varsity contradicted with the norms of UGC. Later, the issue was brought to the notice of VC of Jadavpur University, Mr. Suranjan Das. The Education Minister of West Bengal also asked VC to set up a committee and take the decision. As per the recommendations of the committee, the varsity revised the admission criteria for M.A Mass Communication programme.

The varsity has made some changes in the official notification issued for the admission to M.A Mass Communication programme for the academic session 2017-18. The candidates who possess Bachelor’s in any discipline with minimum qualifying marks can apply for the course. June 19, 2017, is the deadline to submit applications for Masters in Mass Communication programme.
The course fee is Rs. 30,000 per annum and the duration of the course is two years.
