  • The course is scheduled to begin in the month of July with at least 40 students to start with.

Jadavpur University to Introduce MA in Journalism with 40 seats

The Jadavpur University (JU) is soon going to offer Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication from the upcoming academic session. Currently, the varsity only provides a PG diploma certification course in Mass Communication specialization. While revealing information on the same, the Vice-chancellor of the university, Mr. Suranjan Das cleared that both the theoretical and practical part of the course would be given equal importance.

Apart from that, the Kolkata-based Jadavpur University will also collaborate and enter into an agreement with the Press Club to enhance and give impetus to the student’s skills. This association will help conduct training programmes along with workshops so that the students can be equipped with latest technologies and expertise that exists within the mass communication and journalism industry.

The students will be involved in the programmes that are conducted by the University and also those organised outside of it. To ensure maximum participation in these workshops, students will also be conferred with training certificates signed by the Press Club of Kolkata. Further, the introduction of the course is considered as one of the exclusive opportunities for interested candidates get insights in theory as well as practical in the field.

Since the year 1989, the Department of Adult, Continuing Education and Extension, also known as DACEE of Jadavpur University has been offering a PG Diploma course in Mass Communication. However, from now on, it has also introduced a self-financing Master of Arts course.

The course is expected and scheduled to begin in the month of July with at least 40 students to start with. The duration of the course will be of 4 semesters.

The Vice-chancellor also stated that they are also looking forward to cooperating with various newspapers as well as news channels in order to get qualified professionals on board as guest lecturers who can teach the students necessary course concepts.
