On August 28, 2017, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) launched its all new Korean Language Certificate Programme. A total of 30 students will be enrolled for the current academic session for the language specific course, revealed the VC of JMI.
The certificate course in Korean Language will not only open up employment opportunities for students in renowned Korean companies but also promote Korean language education in India, he added. Apart from the certificate course, Korean language will also be available under Choice-Based Credit System or CBCS for students pursuing professional courses in Management and Engineering.

During the inaugural ceremony of the programme, Vice Chancellor of JMI, Prof. Talat Ahmed spoke about the ties between India and South Korea have been strengthening over the years. The introduction of the course at JMI will further consolidate the relationship between the two countries for a holistic development of individuals as far as the language and culture are concerned. Further, both India and South Korea have made significant partnership in the fields of economy and culture.
Prof. Talat Ahmed further revealed that nearly 400 applicants registered for the course till out of which only 30 will be selected for the course. The numbers reveal the huge demand of Korean language course in India.

An official associated with the Embassy of Korea expressed that South Korea-India relations are undergoing a significant transformation. South Korea will play a significant role in accelerating India’s economic development, he assured.
Earlier, Korean language programme was also introduced at the University of Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru University.
